BSW: Wednesday 23/03

It’s sad when great initiatives start and aren’t properly maintained. When you realise there is an issue at your university or a community to build, you’re spurred in to action- but what happens when you leave? Student societies that are championed by one person suffer when said person graduates. When it comes to training, events and outreach, we all act as if we’re reinventing the wheel and like no one has ever been done it before in the history of the world. Long-and-short of it: planning takes lots of energy and time. This all started when I tried to make a list of all of the ‘women in science/ engineering/ tech’ student societies across the country. Whilst WISE do a valiant effort of connecting industry leaders with diversity on their radar, they can’t do it all- but we can work together to make a difference.

I’m creating an online space where we can share:

  • Statistics and Resources
  • News and Events
  • Opportunities to Interact with Schools
  • Guidelines, Activities and Ideas for Interacting with Schools
  • Contact Lists
  • Media Training
  • Funding sources
  • Experiences

The slides from the launch/ an overview of my plans are available here.

The group Facebook page is here.
