Apologies for the radio silence …

I’ve been in China, which has meant:

  • No secure wifi connection
  • No facebook
  • No twitter
  • No instagram
  • No google
  • No wordpress
  • A lot of tepid green tea

It’s been a very surreal few days, summarised entirely by this video:


In China everything is big: the population, the problem with pollution, the number of dishes they serve you, the amount of times a day they are happy eating noodle soup, the buildings, the roads, the number of cars.. There are so many sky scrapers you can barely see the smog. I lived in a variety of airconditioned rooms for 125 hours. The only respite being a one hour drink with John Anderson on the 87th floor of the Grand Hyatt Shanghai…

I think what I have to add is how generous I found the Chinese students I met from nanjing tech. They went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and welcome- even taking me across town and getting me on a train. There are some brilliant members of that 1.3 billion population.
